Once the blockbuster trade to send Andrew Bynum to the Philadelphia 76ers and Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA was rocked at its core with a potentially drastic shift in power on the horizon.
As arguably the biggest winner in the deal, the Lakers were able to get rid of constant headache and injury prone Bynum for the league’s best center. The deal was a no brainer for Los Angeles as they were able to bring in a considerable upgrade while shipping out a player that may never live up to his potential.
During Bynum’s time in Los Angeles, Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spent a lot of time with the up-and-coming center trying to improve his skill set. Jabbar attempted to turn Bynum into the best center in the league with some old school moves that would dominate the competition and create another unstoppable force for the Lakers in the paint.
Unfortunately, Jabbar and Bynum never really saw eye-to-eye and the six-time NBA champion claims the 24-year-old grew tired of trying to improve his game with one of the greatest centers of all-time.
After Bynum was dealt, Jabbar removed the tape from his lips and spoke about his true feelings in regards to Bynum. The statements made by Jabbar weren’t exactly praising the All-Star center as he went on to talk about Bynum’s worth ethic and the lack thereof.
Last season, Bynum quickly turned into one of the best big men in the league as he was finally able to stay healthy for an entire. As a result of being able to stay healthy, Bynum was able to earn his first All-Star appearance as the starting center for the Western Conference and proved a lot of doubters wrong about his potential.
Despite all the positives, Bynum became a problem in the locker room for Lakers Coach Mike Brown and seemed to be on his way out. Obviously, Bynum’s actions helped make the team’s decision to pull the trigger on the megadeal that sent him to Philly.
Apparently, the up-and-comer wasn’t just rubbing the Lakers’ coaching staff the wrong way as innovator of the “Sky Hook” wasn’t impressive with him either.
