After the fiasco at the NBA trade deadline back in March, Dwight Howard led everyone to believe that he’d be staying with the Orlando Magic for at least one more season and potentially signing a long-term contract extension. As usual, Howard misled everyone once again and the superstar center is insisting on being traded to the Brooklyn Nets for the second time.
Unfortunately for Howard, the trade to Brooklyn may no longer be possible with the Nets making a deal for Joe Johnson and re-signing Gerald Wallace. The addition of these two players has added $130 million dollars to the payroll and that may make it virtually impossible to re-sign perennial All-Star point guard Deron Williams and extend Howard for the long-term.
It appears that Howard may have made life that much harder moving forward as he may very well not get what he’s wanted ever since the best of this past NBA season. Even though a deal will most likely not happen with Brooklyn, the Los Angeles Lakers are ready to swoop in and acquire Howard in exchange for Andrew Bynum
The Lakers have had Howard on the radar for quite some time now and having been more than willing to send Bynum to Orlando in exchange. Reports have begun to surface that the Lakers would include Metta World Peace and the Magic might also send Jason Richardson to Los Angeles.
The plot will almost certainly begin to thicken over the coming days with plenty of speculation going back and forth between these two teams with two of the best centers in the game potentially being trade for one another.
One of the reasons the deal may never go through is the Lakers insistence on Howard signing a contract extension. Howard has repeatedly refused to sign anywhere other than Brooklyn if traded.
