After the proposed trade to send Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets, the Orlando Magic reached out to Howard in attempt to stop the bleeding by asking him to stay rather than being traded elsewhere. The request was a stretch, but something that the Magic’s front office thought was worth a try.
Unfortunately for Orlando, Howard stuck by his trade demand and still expects to be traded before next season. With Howard having no intention of suiting up for the Magic again, Orlando has been put in a tough spot in terms of not getting equal value in return for the superstar center.
It has been rumored over the past few weeks that the Magic coveted Andrew Bynum of the Los Angeles Lakers in a potential trade for Howard. Bynum is the only player in the league at the center position that even comes close to the talent level of Howard’s, but Orlando has been reluctant to make a deal with the Magic uncertain about Bynum’s knees and attitude.
At this point in time, the Lakers and Houston Rockets are the two best options for the Magic in terms of getting a blockbuster trade done. It remains uncertain at this point in time whether or not a deal will get done over the next week or so, but Orlando is in desperate mode at this point in time and just wants to get this situation resolved with Howard no longer in town.
It has been reported that the Rockets are currently doing everything within their power to make this deal happen whether or not it is Bynum or Howard that is dealt to Houston. Either trade proposal is possible, but it remains to be seen whether or not this blockbuster deal actually gets done.
