The Los Angeles Clippers came into this shortened NBA season as a team that had completely changed the outlook of the struggling NBA franchise with the acquisition of superstar point guard Chris Paul. With Paul coming to L.A. and not to the team that everyone thought he would, the Clippers went from perennial bottom feeder to playoff contender. Not only was Chris Paul a great addition alongside Blake Griffin, but the Clippers were also able to sign veteran Chauncey Billups.
The signing of Billups, the trade for Paul and another key acquisition with Caron Butler had set the bar for the Clippers moving forward. Needless to say, the immediate future looked bright for the “other” team in Los Angeles as the debate started to get into high gear with fans and analysts arguing over which team was the best in L.A.
Fortunately, the Los Angeles Clippers have been able to turn it around and as a result are arguably one of the best teams in the NBA this season. Despite the success of this up-and-coming squad, the Clippers got some bad news recently with Chauncey Billups going down with an apparent Achilles injury against the Orlando Magic. The diagnosis of Billups’ injury was uncertain, but now the results are in that the veteran point guard has torn his Achilles tendon on his left leg.
This injury is always serious in terms of keeping a player out for an entire season and possibly ending their career. Chauncey Billups has already come out and said that he will play again, but that Achilles injury may prevent him from doing just that as it can be a very difficult injury to recover from as an aging player in the NBA.
Chauncey Billups does seem to have the right attitude about this, but there is no telling where his career will go from here.
