Before this season got underway on Christmas Day, the Los Angeles Clippers were considered to be arguably one of the worst NBA franchises in the history of the league. Not only were they one of the worst in the NBA, but it could be argued that the Clippers franchise has been one of the worst in sports history.
That is definitely saying something about the franchise and at times has left people scratching their heads about why this team couldn’t get it together playing in one of the biggest markets in this country. With Los Angeles being a desired destination of all athletes and many people around the world for that matter, the Clippers shouldn’t have much trouble drawing the free agents and making trades.
This season has become the year that the struggling NBA franchise was able to completely turn it around. With the acquisition of arguably the best all-around point guard in the league via trade with the New Orleans Hornets, the Los Angeles Clippers have gone from perennial bottom feeder to a potential NBA title contender this season.
All that attention and success in the first half of the NBA season can be attributed to Chris Paul and the chemistry he has brought to this team. With the Clippers now a force to be reckoned with the Lakers have taken a backseat in Los Angeles and might be doing that for years to come with Chris Paul deciding to pick up his player option on his contract for the 2012-2013 season.
This was a big step in the right direction for Lob City as now the Los Angeles Clippers finally have something to build on. The goal for this season was to make the playoffs and play well enough to convince Chris Paul to stay and potentially sign a long-term extension during or after next season.
