Last season was a rebirth of the Bulls franchise in the Windy City as point guard Derrick Rose went from an up-and-coming All-Star into one of the best all-around players in the league. Not only was Rose able to win his first NBA MVP award, but the team came together under new head coach Tom Thibodeau and got people thinking that the Bulls are back in contention for NBA title in the years to come.
With the Chicago Bulls looking as promising as they were last season and the fact the finished the regular season with the best record in the league, the future is definitely bright in the Windy City, but they will need to surround Derrick Rose with some better players in order to make it to the next level.
The one position that the Chicago Bulls would love to get an upgrade at is shooting guard. With no dependable second scoring option in Chicago, Rose basically had to do everything himself offensively and that is what turned out to be this team’s downfall in the playoffs.
Fortunately, the Chicago Bulls will address their problem this summer and will pursue an offensive-minded shooting guard in the NBA draft, via trade and through free agency. Even though a shooting guard will be priority number one, this team may have an opportunity at a different position as they might be in the running for three-time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard.
The recent trade rumor involving the Magic and the Bulls is Chicago trading Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer to Orlando in exchange for Dwight Howard. This looks like a great trade for the Bulls, but whether or not the Magic will make the deal remains to be seen.
Joakim Noah will almost certainly be the player the Orlando Magic would be most interested in, but I don’t know if Noah and Boozer will be enough to please GM Otis Smith.
