Over the past three years the Denver Nuggets have been arguably one of the best teams in the Western Conference and most of the success can be attributed to the performance of superstar Carmelo Anthony.
With Anthony being arguably one of the best players in the league and a dominant scorer that can be compared with the likes of Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James, the Nuggets have coveted this young stud out of Syracuse, but it appears his time in the Mile High City could quickly be coming to an end as trade rumors have surrounded him all season long.
It is no secret that Carmelo Anthony declined to re-sign with the Denver Nuggets over this past off-season as he turned down a contract extension of $45 million over the next three years. This was surprising to say the least for the Nuggets as they figured he would be in Denver for the majority of his career if not being a Nugget for life, but that doesn’t appear to be the case as the recently married superstar has expressed a lot of interest in playing for the New York Knicks.
With this recent dilemma the Denver Nuggets have explored the option of trading their superstar, but even though Carmelo Anthony has said that he will only sign an extension with the New York Knicks if he is traded because he becomes a free agent in the off-season, the New Jersey Nets seem to be his most likely destination as they have done everything within their power to make a trade possible.
The most recent trade rumor surrounding Carmelo Anthony is the young superstar heading to New Jersey along with point guard Chauncey Billups in part of a three-way deal including the Detroit Pistons in which Richard Hamilton will also head to the Nets.
Unfortunately, even though this seemed to be somewhat of a done deal few days ago, it has hit a snag as the Denver Nuggets are now threatening to make a deal with the New York Knicks if the New Jersey Nets don’t agree to the terms.
Honestly, Melo would more than welcome a trade to the Big Apple, but I believe he will ultimately end up in New Jersey as they have the right pieces of puzzle to make this deal work.
If the deal does go down, the Nuggets will most likely acquire some high draft picks and both rookie Derrick Favors and point guard Devin Harris amongst others.
