Thursday night for the 2010 NBA Draft, the Timberwolves had the number four overall pick of the night this past week. They were hoping to acquire a wing player or someone that could help improve the talent capacity of their perimeter. They got just what they wanted and were absolutely ecstatic when their turn came and forward Wesley Johnson was still available for choosing.
23-year-old Johnson showed some very impressive talent and playing abilities when he transferred from Iowa State to Syracuse. Johnson is definitely one of those guys that you look at and know he has great potential ahead of him in the NBA. Johnson is a multitalented and adaptable player that is able to play well without having to have the ball at his own grip and he is a great scorer from the three-point range on the court. He is definitely a player that you should look for in coming years to be playing at a strong NBA level of defense.
In addition to acquiring Johnson through this year’s draft, Minnesota also ended up with a couple other players through trades. They received three more forwards; Martell Webster from the Portland Trailblazers, draft pick number 30 Lazar Hayward from Marquette, as well as draft pick number 35 Nemanja Bjelica.
Acquiring these three forwards on draft night makes them completely full at forward positions but definitely have a strong set of players. Minnesota definitely has a strong team for this upcoming NBA season and I am eager to see how well they will play together on the court and how far they can push themselves this year.
My only concern and thought is – why did the Timberwolves obtain so many forwards? Do they honestly need that many forwards? What are your thoughts?
