Game 6 of the 2010 NLCS gets underway tonight under the stars in Philadelphia. The Phillies will look to take this Championship Series to Game 7 with a win while the San Francisco Giants will look to put an end to this Championship Series with their own victory. If the Giants have kept up with the Texas Rangers they would know that they were able to accomplish a win in Game 6 against the New York Yankees when they had a 3-2 lead, just as the Giants do.
Tonight’s game will – plain and simple – be a rematch of the NLCS Game 2. The Phillies will look to Roy Oswalt to keep this series going. The Phillies hope that when Oswalt get on the mound for the start of tonight’s game that he will bring his A-game as he did in Game 2 and not his relief stint that he had in Game 4, which was unexpected and at which time he gave up a single run resulting in the loss for the Phillies. In Game 2 of the NLCS, Oswalt pitched eight straight innings only allowing three hits and run while striking out nine. He is 1-1 with an ERA of 2.08.
The Giants will hand the ball over to Jonathan Sanchez. In Game 2, he was able to strike out seven while allowing three runs and walking three over six innings. In his 13 1/3 innings pitched in the postseason, he is 0-1 with an earned run average of 2.03, registering 18 strikeouts. Not bad but he’ll definitely have to have a better night than Oswalt.
Looking to the bullpen for the Phillies, the Phillies have the upper-hand for sure. For one, most of the Giants’ batters are right-handed and Oswalt has a sweet tooth for those right-handed batters – striking them out easily. For two, the Phillies lineup is simply better especially with the leadoff spot being given to Jimmy Rollins, who stole two bases in Game 5 on Thursday, which was a win for the Phillies. For the Giants, it looks like Cody Ross, who is batting in sixth position, has five RBI’s and 3 homeruns during the LCS so the team is highly going to be looking at him to help get the ticket for the World Series.
