The Arizona Cardinals have made some crucial moves during the NFL offseason in order to secure some key players to their franchise for at least the next five to eight years. The number one goal for the Arizona Cardinals after the NFL lockout ended was to make the trade for quarterback Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles. Once they traded for Kolb and signed him to a lucrative contract extension, the Cardinals main focus was directed at superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
Over the past few years, Larry Fitzgerald has been considered to be one of the best wide receivers in the game and if he had a quarterback anything like the recently retired Kurt Warner throwing him passes he could easily become the best wideout in the NFL. With that being said and the recent acquisition of Kevin Kolb, the Arizona Cardinals knew they had to locked up Larry Fitzgerald and that they did by signing him to an eight-year $120 million dollar contract extension.
This was smart move by the Arizona Cardinals, but it may have been a move that jeopardizes another superstar’s future with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans aren’t the team they used to be a couple of years ago, but they do have one of the best running backs in the game in Chris Johnson.
Much like Larry Fitzgerald, Chris Johnson needed a contract extension from his team to lockup his future with the franchise and Fitzgerald’s contract was being used as a way to determine how much he should be paid.
As many big-name players do in the NFL, Johnson wanted to be paid like the best player at his position and was asking about $13 million a season which is $5 million more a year than the highest paid running back in the NFL.
Reportedly, the Tennessee Titans are willing to make Chris Johnson a very rich man by offering about $10 million dollars a year, but Johnson isn’t having that as he wants more per season. With that being said, if the two sides can’t come to an agreement during the NFL regular season, Chris Johnson could ask to be traded
