There has been a lot of speculation over the last few months about where veteran wide receiver might land once free agency begins in the NFL. There have been tons of teams linked to possibly signing the one-time Super Bowl champion like the Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles and even the Oakland Raiders, but it appears that he might be headed back to one of two teams that he has already played for in the past.
Reportedly, Plaxico Burress has a dinner setup with his former head coach Tom Coughlin about a possible return to the New York Giants. It is no secret that these two have butted heads from time to time, but Coughlin may have come to the conclusion that Burress might be a different man after his time in prison and he could definitely use him in the offense.
Right after his dinner with Tom Coughlin, Plaxico Burress plans to meet up with head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Similar to his time in the Big Apple, Burress ruffled some feathers in Pittsburgh and was pushed out of town.
It will be interesting to see where Plaxico Burress goes from here and which team he ultimately ends up signing with, but he definitely makes them a better football team moving forward where ever he chooses to sign.
Personally, I believe he would be the ideal fit back in New York as quarterback Eli Manning would love to have him as a downfield target once again. If the Giants fail to sign free agent wide receiver Steve Smith, Tom Coughlin and company might be begging the veteran wideout to come back.
If he did sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers I think he role would be much smaller than it would with the New York Giants. With Hines Ward, Heath Miller and Mike Wallace being the go-to guys in the passing game, Plaxico Burress would take a back seat.
