As arguably the biggest free agent signing in NFL history, four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning wore his new No. 18 jersey for the Denver Broncos on Thursday, July 26 with a huge crowd filled with Broncos fans ready to usher him in as the new face of the storied franchise.
After Tim Tebow fever struck in the Mile High City last season, the consensus was that the Broncos had finally found the quarterback to lead the team in the post Jay Cutler era. Despite seemingly endless criticism for an ugly throwing motion and an inability to make an impact in the passing game, Tebow led the Broncos to the NFL playoffs and a playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Unfortunately, the Broncos never intended to keep Tebow long-term after Manning hit the open market. Once Manning was officially a free agent, Denver jumped at the opportunity with two-time Super Bowl champion and former face of the franchise in John Elway being the pitch man.
Once the new five-year deal was signed by Manning, a new era of Broncos football began with many fans in the Mile High City ecstatic about the team’s chances moving forward. It remains to be seen if Manning is the same dominant quarterback he once was with the Indianapolis Colts, but the Broncos are willing to take that chance by rolling the dice on Manning.
Reportedly, Manning hasn’t missed a beat in training camp thus far as he looks like the one-time Super Bowl champion of old that spent the first 14 years of his career in Indianapolis. Of course, training camp and practice are much different in comparison to being on the gridiron against opposing NFL teams.
Even though some people doubt Manning’s ability to bounce back and become an elite QB once again, but it’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out in Denver with the full support of the fans.
