San Francisco 49ers (8-8)
Over the past half decade or so, the San Francisco 49ers have really struggled to become a playoff team in the NFC Conference once again, but even though they still have a ways to go before they can be considered a team that can contend with the best of the best in the NFC, the 49ers seem poised to win the NFC West division this season.
With Alex Smith coming into his own with the likes of Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore coming out of the backfield and up and coming tight end Vernon Davis and wide receiver Michael Crabtree at his disposal the 49ers offense will be much improved to compliment an already dominant defense. We show the odds set at -175 for the 49ers winning the division this year.
Arizona Cardinals (10-6)
During the last couple of seasons, the Arizona Cardinals have dominated the NFC West division with superstar quarterback Kurt Warner under center, but now the team will be handed over to backup Matt Leinart.
With the former Heisman trophy winner under center, the Cardinals will have a big learning curve ahead of them and might not even make it into the playoffs this season as they are bound to struggle.
Seattle Seahawks (5-11)
It wasn’t all that long ago that the Seattle Seahawks were the team to beat in the NFC West, but as time has rolled on and veteran players have only gotten older, the franchise has suffered.
This season the Seattle Seahawks brass had brought in some fresh blood in head coach Pete Carroll (USC). With Carroll calling the shots on the sidelines, the Seahawks hope to get back in contention in the NFC West, but they will be headed for another season of disappointment. St. Louis Rams (1-15)
The St. Louis Rams may have been able to get their hands on a new franchise quarterback in rookie Sam Bradford (Oklahoma), but they still have a long way to go before they will be threat for any opposing team as this will almost certainly be another rough season with their rookie quarterback ending up on his back more than making plays.
