The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants didn’t look very good in the first week of the NFL season as they were humbled by their arch division rival Dallas Cowboys. With the Cowboys putting Eli Manning and company in their place at MetLife Stadium, many people began to doubt the Giant’s chances of defending their title or even making the playoffs.
Fortunately for New York, Week 2 was another story altogether. The Giants did get off to an incredibly poor start that seemed to be more of the same for New York with Manning throwing three interceptions, but the two-time Super Bowl champion drastically turned things around as the game progressed.
Manning finished with 510 yards and three touchdowns while leading the Giants to 41-34 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Needless to say, the Giants have shown their classic resilience once again and will have their work cut out for them for a third straight week going up against up-and-comer Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
The Giants will be on the road for this matchup and aren’t getting much love from the odds makers with only a -2 point spread in their favor. The Panthers are about as unpredictable as any team in the league this season with two performance that were polar opposites of one another in the first two weeks, but they’re incredibly dangerous with Newton coming into his own in Week 2 both on the ground and through the air.
Newton threw for 253 yards and one touchdown while rushing for a team-high 71 yards also scoring on the ground. The Panthers were able to takedown the division rival New Orleans Saints, 35-27.
Coming into Week 3, both teams will be looking to keep up their momentum and battling to keep up with division leaders. Even though both teams may be evenly matched, the Giants have the edge in experience and all-around talent.
Take the Giants at -2.
