Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers Sun. Nov. 27, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
With the AFC West division being wide open right now, the Denver Broncos have gone from being without doubt the worst team in the division to potentially winning the division at season’s end. Right now the Oakland Raiders are the top team in the AFC West with a 6-4 record, but the Denver Broncos are sitting with a 5-5 record heading into their showdown with the division rival San Diego Chargers and could continue to close the gap with another win.
Now that the Broncos have officially cut their ties with veteran quarterback Kyle Orton, the storied Denver franchise has gone all-in on Tim Tebow and with good reason as the second-year quarterback has won four out of the last five games as a starter for the Broncos.
The San Diego Chargers on the other hand could be on the verge of an extensive rebuilding process as their talented squad just hasn’t been able to live up expectations this season. With franchise quarterback Philip Rivers having arguably the worst season of his NFL career by leading the league in interceptions (17) and perennial Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates looking like he should start considering retirement due to injury concerns, this team has gone from being a Super Bowl title contender into a potential bottom feeder in the AFC Conference.
Despite all of that being said, the San Diego Chargers have been favored to come out on top in this AFC West division showdown with a -6 point spread. Even though the Chargers might be able to bounce back this week, I believe the Denver Broncos will make this a competitive game and should be where you put your money.
