There is no question at this point in the NFL regular season that the Detroit Lions are the team of the future in the NFC Conference. Even though there are other impressive young teams in the NFC this season like the San Francisco 49ers (9-2) and the Atlanta Falcons (7-4), the talent on the current Lions squad looks like it could be around for quite some time with perennial playoff appearances in the near future.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Detroit Lions faced arguably their toughest challenge of the season against the arch division rival and defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. There was no doubt that the Packers were the obvious favorites in this game, but there was some talk of an upset brewing.
Unfortunately, the Detroit Lions ended up suffering their fourth loss of the season with the Green Bay Packers staying perfect at 11-0. Despite the undefeated intact, the biggest headline to come out of this game was superstar defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh being ejected for deliberately stomping on a Packers player.
After seeing the replay multiple times, it was pretty obvious that Suh did stomp on a Packers player and was justifiably ejected. Along with the ejection, a suspension was likely to follow and now the league has given Ndamukong Suh a two-game ban for this incident on Thanksgiving Day.
Reportedly, Suh has appealed this suspension, but the consensus around the league is that there is no way that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will cut this suspension short. This is just another stain on the young career of the All-Pro defensive tackle as he continues to have problems controlling his temper on the football field.
This two-game suspension will almost certainly affect the Detroit Lions moving forward as they are fighting for a playoff spot and have just lost arguably their best defensive player.
