The busiest team in the NFL during the offseason and throughout the preseason has been the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only did Andy Reid and company add multiple Pro Bowlers to their already talented roster via free agency and through a blockbuster trade (Kevin Kolb deal), but now the Eagles have come to an agreement on a contract extension for superstar quarterback Michael Vick.
Once the NFL lockout ended, the Philadelphia Eagles number one priority was to re-sign Michael Vick and then trade backup quarterback Kevin Kolb. The end result may have been dealing Kolb first and signing Vick later, but the Eagles were able to achieve both of these goals and secure the team’s future at quarterback for at least the next six years.
Even though Michael Vick was able to come into his own last season under center for the Philadelphia Eagles and become an MVP candidate in the process, the team was not going to sign their new starting quarterback to a deal that would rival a contract given to Tom Brady (New England Patriots) or Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts). It would be hard to argue that Michael Vick hasn’t transformed into one of the best all-around quarterbacks in the league after his unbelievable season last year, but it was uncertain how much his new contract would be worth due to the successful season.
Reportedly, the Philadelphia Eagles has agreed to a contract extension with Michael Vick worth $100 million dollars over the next six years. This is lucrative to say the least, but personally I believe is worth every penny as long as he can stay healthy and keep playing at an MVP level under center for the Eagles.
This six-year deal with Michael Vick will have $40 million dollars guaranteed.
