During the NFL season last year, the Chicago Bears were a streaky team to say the least. They were coming off a season in which they won the NFC North division title and made it all the way to the NFC Championship game with quarterback Jay Cutler and up-and-coming running back Matt Forte leading the way. Unfortunately, they lost at the hands of the arch division rival Green Bay Packers who went on to win the Super Bowl.
Last season the Bears weren’t a bad football team but definitely needed to improve on many things before taking another step towards being a legitimate Super Bowl title contender or even a force to be reckoned with in the NFC North. One of the main reasons for their limited success last year was the play of up-and-comer Matt Forte. Without Forte playing well consistently, Chicago would’ve lost without a shot to make the playoffs.
Unfortunately, even though Forte proved to be one of the best running backs in the league, the Chicago Bears failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension keeping him in the Windy City. Ironically enough, an extension has yet to be signed by Forte and the Bears went out and signed Michael Bush as an insurance policy.
Reportedly, the Chicago Bears has agreed to sign Michael Bush to a four-year deal worth $14 million with $7 million guaranteed. This didn’t sit well with Forte as he awaits a new long-term offer from the Bears.
Regardless of Forte’s opinion, this was a solid move for the Chicago Bears moving forward. With Bush shouldering the load for an injured Darren McFadden on the Oakland Raiders last season, the up-and-comer will almost certainly make an impact with time behind Matt Forte next season.
