As arguably the second-best player for the Green Bay Packers, veteran wide receiver Greg Jennings is invaluable to the team considering he’s the favorite target of the Packers’ best player in quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
There’s no question that Rodgers can basically win with anyone that he’s got on the field as he has that Drew Brees-like style that makes everyone around him that much better, but without Jennings the Packers’ offense will take a severe blow.
With Jennings’ contract expiring at season’s end, there’s a good possibility that he’ll be playing elsewhere next year. It seems as though every player in the league these days, with the exception of top tier quarterbacks, has an uncertain future regardless of the numbers they put on a consistent basis. Jennings happens to be the next in line on the list of the league’s best wideouts and may ultimately be leaving Green Bay as a result.
Recently, Jennings came out and said that he wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t with the team after this season. Strong words for a player that hasn’t played a single game thus far and is currently working on a contract extension.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the contract talks impact his play over the course of the regular season. Jennings will be a huge factor in the Packers’ campaign to get back to the Super Bowl in a highly competitive NFC Conference and arguably the toughest division in the NFC North.
With the Detroit Lions on the rise and Chicago Bears adding Brandon Marshall into the mix, the NFC North division title will be priority number one for the Packers. The Packers are still favored to win the division and potentially make it to the Super Bowl for second time in three years, but it won’t be easy.
