It’s official! The Detroit Lions are the real deal this season after getting off to a 4-0 start and coming back from 20 points down in two consecutive weeks. The comeback against the division rival Minnesota Vikings wasn’t much of surprise considering the fact that Donovan McNabb and company have failed to win a single game thus far this season, but Week 4’s comeback against the playoff-contending Dallas Cowboys was impressive.
After getting lit up by Tony Romo and the Cowboys potent offense in the first half, the Detroit Lions were looking at what seemed to be an insurmountable lead, but the second half of this Week 4 showdown was another story and another game altogether. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson were basically shutout in the first three quarters of this game, but the fourth quarter these two emerging stars showed their resilience by connecting for two touchdowns.
As if the Stafford-Johnson connection in the fourth quarter wasn’t bad enough for the Cowboys defense, America’s Team started to fall apart late in the game once again with Tony Romo throwing three interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and committing costly turnovers at the wrong time. With Romo continuing to falter in the fourth quarter it could be just a matter of time before head coach Jason Garrett considers making a change.
The Detroit Lions on the other hand look like a team on the rise in the NFL with their fourth straight win to start to the season after pulling off this amazing comeback and beating the Dallas Cowboys, 34-30. As long as Matthew Stafford and company can continue to play at a high level, this team is going places and could start to get a lot of Super Bowl title contender buzz if they beat playoff caliber teams like the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers this season.
