Dallas Cowboys takedown rival New York Giants in NFL season opener

The 2012 NFL regular season has officially begun with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants facing off in the season-opener at MetLife Stadium.

The NFC East division will once again be as intriguing as ever with three teams with a legitimate shot of winning the division title at season’s end. The Giants are obviously the favorites coming off Super Bowl win, but the Cowboys proved that they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in Week 1 as they were able to come out on top, 24-17.

Coming into this matchup, Eli Manning and company were stacked on offense and supporting one of the best defenses in the NFL. With that being said, New York was thought to give Dallas a serious run for their money and possibly impose their will.

Obviously, that didn’t happen as quarterback Tony Romo came to play throwing for a game-high three touchdowns and 307 yards. Romo did throw an interception early in the game, but the often criticized gunslinger redeemed himself with a very impressive performance against the Cowboys’ division rivals.

The real surprise on Wednesday was up-and-coming wide receiver Kevin Olgetree. With 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Olgetree proved he was the perfect replacement for Laurent Robinson in the receiving corps. Miles Austin ended up with 73 yards and touchdown while Dez Bryant added 85 yards on four catches.

Along with the air attack firing on all cylinders, the Cowboys were also able to get it done on the ground with DeMarco Murray finishing with a game-high 131 rushing yards and a touchdown. Giants’ Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 78 yards and one of the team’s two touchdowns.

As for the Giants, nothing seemed to go right for the defending Super Bowl champions. Manning finished with 213 passing yards and one touchdown.

Even though it’s only Week 1, the Giants clearly had flaws in their game and the Cowboys were much better than expected.
