After Week 1 of this NFL regular season, the New Orleans Saints were 0-1 as a result of a loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers in the season opener. Despite losing this game to Aaron Rodgers and company, Sean Payton’s squad was impressive to say the least as the outcome could have easily gone in the other direction with the Saints winning their first game of the season and being dubbed the best team in the league.
Seven weeks later, the New Orleans Saints have lost just one more game and are coming off an extremely impressive victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7. Not only did the Saints put on an offensive showcase in Week 7 against the lowly defense of the Colts, but they scored a season-high 62 points in what turned out to be a perfectly executed game plan by head coach Sean Payton.
There was no question that Drew Brees needed to bounce back from the disappointing performance he had in the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3 INTs) and that he did as he threw more touchdown passes (5) than he did incompletions (4). By passing to eight different receivers and getting backed up by a solid running game, Brees and company showed that they are a serious force to be reckoned with this season and might be back to Super Bowl title contender form of a few years ago.
The NFC Conference might be extremely competitive this season with plenty of teams that might be able to go the distance, but the New Orleans Saints seems to be a team destined for greatness once again this season. As long as the key players like Drew Brees, Mark Ingram and Marques Colston can stay healthy, there might be no stopping the Saints this year.
