Terrell Pryor declared eligible NFL for supplement draft but must serve five-game suspension

The Ohio State Buckeyes are a college football program left in ruins after the resignation of head coach Jim Tressel and quarterback Terrell Pryor’s decision to try his luck in the NFL. Even though Pryor wasn’t able to get himself in the 2011 NFL draft, the promising young quarterback was doing everything within his power to in what is called the NFL supplemental draft.

At first glance, the NFL said that Terrell Pryor wouldn’t be eligible for the supplemental draft, but now that isn’t the case as the league has decided that he is eligible. Pryor might be able to get on an NFL team via supplemental draft, but he will face discipline right out of the gate in his NFL career as the league will give him a five-game ban to start the NFL regular season.

Obviously, being an unproven rookie quarterback with a troubled past at Ohio State, Terrell Pryor will almost certainly not be thrust into a starting role under center in the NFL. Not only will Pryor most likely not be starting quarterback in the league next season, but the versatile football player might have to chance his position to wide receiver much like the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Hines Ward did when he made the transition to the NFL.

There is no question that Terrell Pryor will get picked up in the NFL supplemental draft as this kid has a pretty big upside if he can mature and accept whatever role he is given with an NFL team. The question now is what team is willing to take a chance on the rookie quarterback.

Even though many people have never even heard of the NFL supplemental draft, there have been quite a few great players that have been draft that way like Cris Carter, Bernie Kosar, Brian Bosworth and Rob Moore.
