The Indianapolis Colts have been one of the most successful teams in the NFL over the past decade or so as they always seem to be a threat to contend for a Super Bowl title every single season. Even though it is team effort for the Colts, the main reason for their success has been the presence of four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning behind center.
Throughout his time with the Colts, Manning has just seemed to get better with age as he is coming off one of his best seasons in the NFL with 4,500 yards, 33 touchdowns and 16 interceptions and a fourth MVP award. Not only were Manning’s numbers amongst the best in the league last season at his position, but he was able to lead the Colts to a 14-2 regular season record and a trip to a second Super Bowl appearance in three years.
The Indianapolis Colts did end up losing the New Orleans Saints in the Super Bowl last season, but the year was another successful one for arguably one of best teams and best quarterbacks in the league.
Even though Manning is 34 years old, the Colts gunslinger is still on top of his game and with the ability to avoid sacks could play into his 40s like Brett Favre has done in his 20-year NFL career.
With that being said, and the fact that the one-time Super Bowl champion is headed into the last year of his current contract, the Indianapolis Colts will be negotiating a contract extension that could turn out to be a record breaker.
Reportedly, the Indianapolis Colts want to make their superstar quarterback a very rich man by making him the highest-paid player in the NFL.
It is uncertain how much Manning’s contract will be worth, but after the number one overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft in Sam Bradford just signed a deal worth $78 million with $50 million guaranteed, the Colts will almost certainly looked to top that considerably.
