Bryce Harper Signs With Washington Nationals Within Seconds of Monday’s Midnight Deadline

Bryce Harper reported Tuesday morning that he had successfully inked a deal with the Washington Nationals for almost $10 million on Monday night.  The number one overall draft pick out of this year’s 2010 MLB Draft just barely made the midnight deadline on Monday of being signed.  Had this midnight deadline not been reached, Harper would have been dismissed and would be eligible to enter into next year’s MLB Draft.  Therefore, lucky for the Nationals, they were able to agree on a deal and will have Harper as one of their own.

Harper’s deal is worth just shy of $10 million and is a five-year deal with Washington.  Harper was one of the 14 draft picks that waited until the last minute to reach deals with their teams to sign into the MLB.  Continue Reading…

St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford Takes a Beating in Debut

Saturday evening, the St. Louis Rams had their preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.  Sam Bradford, the number 1 2010 NFL Draft pick and quarterback for the St. Louis Rams, took quite the beating in his debut, which wasn’t a victory for the Rams and was a 28-7 victory for the Vikings.

He threw precisely and could run the offensive line proficiently.  Out of 13 attempts, he made 6 passes for a total of 57 yards. He was calm and comfortable in his debut; however, as a rookie, he still made his mistakes. Continue Reading…

Knee Surgery a Success for Chipper Jones, Which Encourages a 2011 Comeback for the Idol

An MRI determined that Chipper Jones had indeed torn his ACL in his left knee and it would require surgery.  The Atlanta Braves icon underwent surgery Saturday morning, which was a success.

Chipper will not return this 2010 MLB season but he has decided that he will not retire after this year.  In fact, Jones will attempt a comeback for the 2011 MLB season; therefore, when spring training camp rolls around next year, we will see Jones with the Braves. Continue Reading…

Jacoby Ellsbury Heads to Boston for MRI

Last night, during his appearance against the Texas Rangers, Jacoby Ellsbury is headed to Boston this Saturday morning to have yet again another MRI.  He is said to be having his ribs re-examined in the fact that he possibly reinjured himself last night during a collision that took place at first base in Arlington.

Ellsbury collided with pitcher Tommy Hunter, but that wasn’t the worst of it.  It was what happened after the collision that is taking Ellsbury MLB season one step closer to ending or at least plummeting drastically.  After colliding with Hunter, Ellsbury fell to the ground and initially landed on his back’s left side.   Continue Reading…

MLB Icon Atlanta Braves’ Chipper Jones to Miss Remainder of Season due to Torn ACL

Chipper Jones got a hit to the heart this Thursday when he found out that he’ll miss the rest of this MLB season.  Although he was planning to retire after this season, it is safe to say that he is more than disappointed that he’ll have to miss due to an injury that he sustained to his left knee, specifically he has a torn ACL.  The torn ligament was determined on Thursday when he underwent an MRI exam to determine the extent of the injury and it definitely wasn’t good news for anyone.

The good news not only blasted Jones and his family but also the Braves.  Jones has been improving a lot over the past couple months and was a huge force of wind in the lineup for Atlanta, who the 18-year veteran has played with for a total of 17 career seasons and manager Bobby Cox. Continue Reading…

Indianapolis Colts Veteran Center Jeff Saturday Out Two to Six Weeks After Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Injuries to centers in the NFL don’t usually get a lot of attention. But then, not all centers are like the Indianapolis Colts Jeff Saturday, a four-time Pro Bowl veteran who is the widely acknowledged anchor of the offensive line.

Details on the injury are sketchy right now. The AP has not even been able to determine which knee underwent the surgery, despite several calls to Colts coach Jim Caldwell and the medical staff. Two to six weeks is a wide margin for error and Indianapolis Colts management won’t narrow things down any further than that. Continue Reading…

Boston Red Sox Dustin Pedroia Looks to Return Tuesday

It’s been a rough 2010 for the Boston Red Sox. The injuries started in April with the sidelining of Jacoby Ellsbury and never let up. The latest casualty is team homerun and slugging leader Kevin Youkilis, who is done for the season after having thumb surgery. However, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel as Dustin Pedroia battles back from a broken right foot.

He suffered the injury back on June 25 and has been pushing to get back in the lineup ever since. At one point, he had to be brought in slowly by the Red Sox training staff because his ambitious workout schedule ran the risk of aggravating the injury. Continue Reading…

Possible Torn ACL for Dallas Cowboys TE John Phillips

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that tight end John Phillips for the Dallas Cowboys may have a torn ACL.  This injury would have occurred during Sunday night’s Hall of Fame preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals during the middle of the second quarter, which the Cowboys won.

Prior to being injured in Sunday night’s game, Phillips had four catches for a total of 60 yards.  Phillips, drafted out of the 2009 NFL Draft in the sixth round, is a second year player for the Cowboys.  In addition to the four catches, he took on some decent blocking during the game as well.  After such a great game for Phillips, it’s going to be disappointing if he has to miss the entire season. Atlanta Falcons WR Michael Jenkins to Miss At Least a Month

The Atlanta Falcons participated in a scrimmage Friday night, which was held at a local high school, in which wide receiver Michael Jenkins sustained an injury to his right shoulder.  This injury will reportedly keep him off the field for about four to six weeks.

Jenkins says that his shoulder feels all right but he did not practice with the team on Saturday.  Specific details of the injury have not been disclosed, such as whether Jenkins’ shoulder was dislocated or separated.  In addition, details as to whether or not the wide receiver would need surgery performed on his right shoulder were not disclosed either.
