The NFL Pro Bowl is an event that not many football fans in this country have circled on their calendar every single year. Despite that being the case and every NFL fan anxiously waiting for the Super Bowl, this game does have some of the best players in the league going head-to-head and as a result some fireworks can occur. In the playoffs last season, the eventual NBA champion Dallas Mavericks were near unstoppable. With an offense that could score inside and out without much trouble and a formidable defense despite their aging stars like Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry, the Mavs were able to get to the NBA Finals and pull off the upset over the revamped Miami Heat led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The stage is set for an epic Super Bowl rematch between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants on Sun. Feb. 5 in Indianapolis. Despite already being dubbed the favorites with a -3 point spread, the Patriots have one of their best players banged up after suffering an ankle injury in the win over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. The battle for L.A. supremacy took an interesting turn on Wednesday night at the Staples Center with the Los Angeles Clippers being the visiting team against the division rival Los Angeles Lakers. After a lot of speculation over the past few months, the Minnesota Timberwolves have finally come to an agreement with Kevin Love on a contract extension. Even though this extension isn’t the max contract that Love would’ve liked to have been offered and former UCLA teammate Russell Westbrook received (5-year $80 million) from the Oklahoma City Thunder, the league’s best power forward was still able to cash in at $60 million over four years with an opt-out clause after the third year. After multiple firing and plenty of rumors circulating around the NFL about the future of the team, the Indianapolis Colts have found a replacement for Jim Caldwell by hiring former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano as the new head coach. This was an interesting move by the Colts and owner Jim Irsay as it shows that this team’s intends to improve on the defensive side of the football. Continue Reading…
#1 Chicago Bulls (16-3)
The Chicago Bulls have had their fair share of injury problems this season with reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose and new addition Richard Hamilton watching from the sidelines, but despite those two injuries to key players this team has still been able to maintain the league’s best record and the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The future of the Indianapolis Colts continues to be shrouded in mystery with owner Jim Irsay making moves on seemingly a weekly basis and now franchise quarterback Peyton Manning saying that he has no idea whether or not he is in the team’s long-term plans moving forward. Needless to say, the Colts look like they are at the beginning of an extensive rebuilding process around rookie quarterback Andrew Luck (Stanford) who Indianapolis intends to acquire with the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. As one of the few teams in the NBA that have gone through some drastic changes this year, the Los Angeles Lakers have fared pretty well with a 10-8 record and a second place standing in the Pacific division. Despite playing better than anticipated without reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom or 11-time NBA champion head coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers fans demand a championship caliber team and right now that is far from what Mike Brown has been able to put together in a short period of time.
