#1 Green Bay Packers (14-1)
The defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers were able to stay on track once again in Week 16 with a dominant win over the arch division rival Chicago Bears on Christmas Day. This win may have very well convinced head coach Mike McCarthy to rest his starters in the final week of the NFL regular season against another division rival in the Detroit Lions.
Regardless of what does happen this week against the Lions, the Packers will go into the playoffs as the team to beat and the clear favorites to win a second straight Super Bowl title. Continue Reading…
As arguably the two top NFL MVP candidates heading into the last week of the NFL regular season, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have been selected as the starters at quarterback for the NFC and AFC Conference in the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl. These selections were no-brainers as Brady and Rodgers have been as advertised this season, but there are some selections like the Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers that have left some people shaking their heads. The New Orleans Saints came into their Monday Night Football matchup with the division rival Atlanta Falcons looking to lock up the NFC South division title and improve their chances of a first-round bye in the playoffs. Even though the division title was supposed to be the only thing superstar quarterback Drew Brees was thinking about heading into Week 16, the media was hyping up the potential of a record-breaking performance by the one-time Super Bowl champion as he was just 305 passing yards away from breaking Dan Marino’s single-season passing record of 5,084 passing yards. There is no doubt at this point in the NFL season that the San Francisco 49ers are the most improved team in the league. With the addition of head coach Jim Harbaugh to the sidelines, there has been no stopping the 49ers this season as they have transformed from a perennial bottom feeder in the NFC Conference to the winners of the NFC West division with an impressive 12-3 record.
As arguably the most sought after head coach in the NFL off-season, Jim Harbaugh had plenty of suitors throwing buckets of money in his direction, but the former coach of Stanford decided to stay near the Bay Area by going with San Francisco. This move one just one of two made by the 49ers that was supposed to help turnaround the team in the near future with the other move being the signing of free agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards. The Dallas Cowboys have cut it close once again in the NFL regular season as they will now have to battle it out with the division rival New York Giants for the NFC East division title in the final week of the regular season. This NFC East showdown was setup due to the Giants getting the best of the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Christmas Day. This game was practically a playoff game for the Giants and they were able to come on top to setup another playoff-like matchup against the Cowboys in Week 17. Continue Reading…
The Detroit Lions have finally been able to end the playoff drought after convincingly beating the San Diego Chargers (38-10) in Week 16 and clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 1999. With this win over the Chargers, the Lions have officially become relevant in the NFL once again and for the foreseeable future. Continue Reading…

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks Sat. Dec. 24, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
Last season the NFC West division was one off the worst divisions in the NFL with all four teams having losing records and just one of those teams being playoff bound. The Seattle Seahawks turned out to be that team last season and were the first team in NFL history to win a division title and make it into the playoffs with a losing record. Continue Reading…
San Diego Chargers @ Detroit Lions Sat. Dec. 24, 2011 4:05 p.m. EST
The San Diego Chargers came into this NFL regular season with high hopes of reclaiming the top spot in the AFC West division and making a deep run in the playoffs. With a Super Bowl title run in their crosshairs, Philip Rivers and company were thought to be one of the best teams in the AFC Conference once again, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case as the Chargers have struggled all season long to get back to form. Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys Sat. Dec. 24, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
The NFC East division title may have very well come down to the final weeks of the NFL regular season once again as the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants are still in contention for the top spot in the division. The Eagles are obviously the team that needs a few things to happen to still be able to win the division title, but the Cowboys control their own fate this weekend if they can come out on top against their arch division rivals in Dallas.
