After Week 1 of this NFL regular season, the New Orleans Saints were 0-1 as a result of a loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers in the season opener. Despite losing this game to Aaron Rodgers and company, Sean Payton’s squad was impressive to say the least as the outcome could have easily gone in the other direction with the Saints winning their first game of the season and being dubbed the best team in the league. Last season the Cincinnati Bengals had some pretty talented players on offense that could have turned this squad into one of the best offenses in the NFL, but for some reason the Bengals fell short and only managed to win four games all year long. With one-time Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Palmer and perennial Pro Bowl wide receivers Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens, the sky should have been the limit for the Bengals, but instead the team fell apart and all three players are no longer in Cincinnati. Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles Sun. Oct. 30, 2011 8:20 p.m. EST
The NFC East division is as competitive as ever this season with all four teams having a legitimate shot to win the division title. Even though the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins could end up on top of this division, the two most talented and popular teams in the division are the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers Sun. Oct. 30, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
One of the most anticipated games of this NFL regular season will get underway this weekend when Tom Brady’s New England Patriots travel to Heinz Field to take on Troy Polamalu and the lockdown defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
About a month ago, this game would have been considered to be just another easy win for Bill Belichick and company with the Steelers continuing to struggle, but the storied Pittsburgh franchise has been able to turn things around as of late with three straight wins over the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Arizona Cardinals. As the most promising young team in the league to start the season, the Detroit Lions haven’t disappointed with five wins in the first seven games of the year. Despite going 5-0 to start the season, the Lions have dropped their last two games to the San Francisco 49ers (25-19) and the Atlanta Falcons (23-16) and are in desperate need of a win to get back on track. This season in the NFL has been an interesting one to say the least with offenses for teams all around the league blowing up. Not only has defense taken a backseat to potent offenses this season, but quarterbacks and wide receivers have seemingly become the most important players in the game once again.
With that being said, free agents gunslingers and wide receivers are now a hot commodity and a necessity for all 32 teams. With players going down left and right due to the shortened training camps, many teams have been paying attention to players that have become available. Continue Reading…
After a devastating Week 1 loss to the division rival Baltimore Ravens (35-7), the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers were thought to be an aging football team that might not be able to contend with the best of the best in the AFC Conference this season. With all the big-name veterans on the Steelers defense no longer being young bucks, the consensus was that the Steelers were in for a long disappointing season in which the Ravens would take over as the best team in the AFC North division. #1 Green Bay Packers (7-0)
The road to an undefeated season is looking more and more like the path the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers are taking as they have won seven straight games and look like they could continue this hot streak for nine more games.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Aaron Rodgers and company can keep this ride going, but with their remaining schedule it looks like a distinct possibility that the cheese heads could run the table. Continue Reading…
The Oakland Raiders made a lot of headlines last week after acquiring veteran quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals. Even though the Bengals were adamant about not trading Palmer, the Cincinnati franchise decided to make the move after the Raiders offered two potential first-round draft picks for the one-time Pro Bowl quarterback. After replacing Kyle Orton in the second half of the loss to the division rival San Diego Chargers in Week 5, Tim Tebow put on a show and almost brought the Denver Broncos from behind to get the win. If recently traded wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (St. Louis Rams) hadn’t dropped a two-point conversion pass from Tebow, the Broncos could have gone on to win that game and gained some ground in the AFC West division.
